Free storytelling evening in which nine people share ten-minute true stories about how science touches their lives.
Tenx9 returns to The Black Box on Wednesday 21 October with Them'uns With the Integrated Education Fund. If you've never come across them, the name tells you exactly how the night works: nine people, each with ten minutes to tell a true story. The whole thing is built around a single theme, and this time it's Them'uns.
The format is a bit of a community effort. Tenx9 asks the audience to send in their own true stories based on the theme, and the night is filled by nine of those, told live. Each one is ten minutes long and looks at how science touches the storyteller's life in its own way. It's a storytelling series that's become a bit of a Belfast fixture, and they've run it across a long list of themes over the years — WILD, Disaster, Nostalgia, Christmas, Shame, Pride, Tradition, Money and Hallow'e'en are a few of them. This one, Them'uns, is the latest.
They don't work in a vacuum, either. Tenx9 partners with a wide range of local festivals and organisations, including Belfast Pride, the NI Science Festival, the Belfast Photo Festival, Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann, Out to Lunch, Imagine! festival, Disability Action, Corrymeela and the Greencastle Writers' Group. The Black Box has been one of the city's most beloved venues since 2006, and it's where they're bringing this particular night.
