Live concert by singer and guitarist Mike Massé, who builds his following with original acoustic covers of classic rock songs on YouTube.
Mike Massé plays The Black Box on Wednesday 28 October, with the show starting at 19:30. He's a singer and guitarist from Salt Lake City who first built his following by posting acoustic covers on YouTube, where he's amassed more than 165 million views. His arrangements of classic rock songs are praised for their originality, creativity, accuracy and simplicity, and for remaining true to the original recordings while adding an emotional impact of their own.
Rock legends have taken notice. Toto reportedly considers his version of 'Africa' to be the band's favourite cover, and BBC Radio called it one of the best versions of the song ever recorded. Artists such as Dennis DeYoung of Styx, Sarah McLachlan and Geddy Lee of Rush have offered their praise. He's toured internationally, playing sold-out shows in Europe and the United States, and has performed live as a vocalist alongside original members of Boston.
It's a solo show, so it'll be just him on stage with his guitar. If you're familiar with the YouTube covers, that's exactly what you'll get here: those same classic rock songs stripped back and rearranged for a live room. The set is built around that acoustic approach, and the praise he's gathered from the original artists gives you a good idea of where he's aiming.
