Musical comedy show 'The Me Tour' by Stephen Lynch, the Tony Award-nominated star of the Broadway show The Wedding Singer.
Stephen Lynch brings his musical comedy show The Me Tour to Ulster Hall on Tuesday 5 January 2027. It's a night of songs and stand-up, and if you're not familiar with how he works, the music is the whole point rather than just a break between the jokes.
Lynch describes himself as "a musician trapped in the body of a comedian", and that's a fair way to put it. He writes and performs his own songs, and the comedy comes from the lyrics rather than the delivery. He's spent a good while building that particular act, and it's a long way from where he started. He moved to New York in 1996, playing Manhattan clubs and underground venues by night and temping by day, until he caught Comedy Central's attention and recorded his first cable special in 2000.
There's a fair bit of theatre in his background too. In 2006 he landed on Broadway as the title character in The Wedding Singer, a turn that earned him a Drama League Award, a Drama Desk Award and a Tony Award nomination. Since then he's headlined sold-out shows across the US, Australia and Europe — where he's known as "the Beyonce of Scandinavia" — toured with comedians like Lewis Black and the late Mitch Hedberg, and released six best-selling CDs, an RIAA-certified Gold DVD, Live at the El Rey, and several Comedy Central specials.
