Free guided session to look closely at a small selection of works from the Ulster Museum's art collection, with sketching encouraged.
Slow Art Sunday returns to the Ulster Museum on Sunday 1 November, from 14:00 to 15:00. This session focuses on the Royal Ulster Academy Exhibition, and it's part of a regular series that runs on the first Sunday of every month.
The whole idea is to slow down. Instead of rushing through a whole gallery, you spend an hour looking properly at a small selection of works from the museum's art collection. One of the museum's knowledgeable guides leads the hour, unpicking the influences and inspirations behind the pieces on display and pointing out a few personal favourites along the way. It's a guided session, so you're not just left to your own devices; there's someone there to help you see things you might have missed if you'd just walked past.
Sketching and bringing your own interpretations are encouraged, and the sessions are built around the idea of discovering the joy of appreciating and loving art at your own pace. It's a good way to spend a Sunday afternoon if you're into art but find the usual gallery experience a bit too fast.
