Guided walking tour of a dozen of Belfast's best sculptures, from the Ulster Museum to the Big Fish on Donegall Quay.
Belfast's Statues and Sculptures - from Frink to the Big Fish is a walking tour that runs from 31 October to 6 November, with slots at 11am and 2pm. It starts outside the Ulster Museum in the Botanic Gardens and winds its way across the city to the Big Fish on Donegall Quay.
Over the course of two hours, you'll see a dozen of the city's best sculptures. The tour is pitched as a snapshot of what Belfast thought was important down the ages, and it doesn't shy away from the gap between them. It asks whether something trendy in the 1960s or something that mattered in 1880 still has anything worthwhile to say to us now, and leaves it to you to decide which of the works have stood the test of time.
The starting point, the Ulster Museum, sits in the grounds of the Botanic Gardens and houses Northern Ireland's treasures of art, history and natural science. Its collections draw on themes like Ancient Ireland, inclusive global histories, the Troubles and the future, so the tour begins at a place that holds a good deal of the city's wider story before you set off on foot.
