Over-18s indie show by the viral British band Panchiko, with Alison's Halo, at The Empire Music Hall.
Panchiko play The Empire Music Hall on Friday 30 October, with Alison's Halo supporting. It's part of a European tour, and the Belfast date is presented by Singular Artists.
If you've never come across them, Panchiko's story is one of the strangest in recent indie history. It started on 21 July 2016, when a user on the 4chan music board /mu/ posted a photo of a worn-out demo titled D>E>A>T>H>M>E>T>A>L. The user claimed it had been released in 2000 by four musicians — Owain, Andy, Shaun and John — and found in a Nottingham record store. The recordings sounded plagued by disc rot, that grainy, degraded quality that comes from a CD breaking down over time, and they began circulating online almost immediately.
What followed was a global hunt. Fans gathered on subreddits and Discord servers, pored over the packaging, and even contacted the Nottingham record store. Eventually, lead singer Owain was reached via a message on a defunct Facebook page. He confirmed he was the artist behind the recordings, right down to the disc rot. Since then, the band has amassed hundreds of millions of streams and is now touring Europe, so this is a chance to hear them live in Belfast rather than through a speaker.
