Touring stop of the Olivier Award-winning musical about the true story of the 1943 Allied deception that helped win the war.
Operation Mincemeat comes to the Grand Opera House in Belfast from Tuesday 10 August to Saturday 14 August 2027. It's the Olivier Award-winning Best New Musical and a recent Broadway hit, billed as the best-reviewed show in West End history with a Tony Award and 161 five-star reviews. It's produced by Avalon in association with SpitLip.
The story is set in 1943 and is a true account of a covert Allied operation: British intelligence used a corpse carrying false documents to mislead Nazi Germany about the invasion of Sicily, a mission that helped win the war. It's written by SpitLip — David Cumming, Felix Hagan, Natasha Hodgson and Zoë Roberts — and directed by Robert Hastie. The show started in 2019 at the 77-seat New Diorama Theatre, then moved to Southwark Playhouse and Riverside Studios, before opening in the West End in May 2023 at the Fortune Theatre, where it's still running. It's also playing on Broadway at the Golden Theatre.
Critics have described it as 'part Mel Brooks, part SIX, part Hamilton with a side order of One Man, Two Guvnors' and 'pure theatrical serotonin'. That mix of influences gives you a sense of the tone: a musical comedy that takes a bizarre piece of wartime history and runs with it.
