Saturday matinee of French opera by Ulster Touring Opera, with music by Bizet, Debussy, Gounod and Delibes, in The Studio at the Grand Opera House.
Ulster Touring Opera bring Opera Voyage: France to The Studio at the Grand Opera House on Saturday 24 April, starting at 2:30pm. It's a matinee, so you're in and out well before the evening kicks in.
The programme draws on four of the big names in French opera: Georges Bizet, Claude Debussy, Charles Gounod and Léo Delibes. If those names ring a bell but you're not sure where to start, that's exactly what this is for. It's a relaxed introduction to the stories and music that have kept audiences coming back to these composers for generations, rather than a full-scale production. The whole thing runs for one hour with no interval, so it's a compact way to get a feel for the French repertoire without committing a whole afternoon to it.
Opera Voyage: France is the fourth and final instalment of Opera Voyages, a series of four Saturday matinees Ulster Touring Opera has been running in partnership with the Grand Opera House. Each voyage focuses on a different operatic region, and this one takes in the elegance, colour and joie de vivre of the French tradition. The Studio is the series' home inside the Grand Opera House, which is Northern Ireland's most iconic theatre, right in the heart of Belfast.
