Jazz guitarist Martin Taylor returns with his solo show 'Standards', fresh arrangements of classic tunes from the Great American Songbook.
Martin Taylor plays the Crescent Arts Centre on Thursday 29 October, a solo date in Belfast that falls towards the end of the month. It's a fingerstyle jazz set, and he's playing alone on stage.
Taylor's career has run for six decades, and he's worked with some of the biggest names in jazz guitar. He's shared the stage with Stéphane Grappelli, Tommy Emmanuel and Chet Atkins, so he's well-versed in the tradition he's drawing from here. He's also picked up a handful of awards along the way and holds an MBE.
The show is called Standards, and it's a new one. The set celebrates the golden age of jazz, and he's built it around fresh arrangements of classic tunes from the Great American Songbook. If you're familiar with that era, you'll recognise the songs; the new arrangements are where he's putting his own stamp on them. It's a solo performance, so it's just him and his guitar for the whole thing.
