Live gig by Canadian singer-songwriter Lynne Hanson, a two-time Canadian Folk Music Award winner, at the Crescent Arts Centre.
Lynne Hanson plays the Crescent Arts Centre on Friday 19 March, a Belfast stop on her tour. She's a Canadian singer-songwriter who's earned the nickname 'Canada's own Queen of Americana', and she describes her own sound as 'porch music with a little red dirt' that shifts from sunshine-soaked ballads to gritty, thunderstorm-driven Americana. It's a good way of putting it, because the two sides of that description — the bright and the dark — are exactly what she's known for.
She's a two-time Canadian Folk Music Award winner and has picked up the Colleen Peterson Songwriting Award, with critics drawing comparisons to Lucinda Williams and Gillian Welch. Over a twenty-year solo career, she's released ten studio albums and two books of poetry. Her tenth record, Just A Poet, came out in May 2024 and went on to be nominated for a Canadian Folk Music Award for Contemporary Album of the Year. That's the one she's touring now, so it'll be the main thing on the set, though there's plenty of older material to pull from.
She's toured widely across North America, Europe and the UK, playing festivals like Take Root, Glasgow Americana, Maverick, Kerrville Folk and the Winnipeg Folk Festival, and has supported Grammy nominees including Gretchen Peters, Steve Forbert and Albert Lee. This is a solo bill, so it's just her on stage.
