Live gig by Joachim Cooder, multi-instrumentalist and son of Ry Cooder, with Italian guitarist Adriano Viterbini.
Joachim Cooder plays the Crescent Arts Centre on Friday 13 November, joined on stage by Italian guitarist Adriano Viterbini. It's a two-guitar line-up, and the two have been touring and recording together for the last year, so this is a settled pairing rather than a one-off pairing.
Cooder's background is one of those that takes a bit to unpack. He grew up surrounded by music alongside his father, the legendary guitarist Ry Cooder, who took him on the road at an early age on the drums, playing both live and in the studio. Through those touring and recording projects he shared stages and recordings with Johnny Cash, Ali Farka Touré, V. M. Bhatt, Steve Earle, John Lee Hooker, Dr. John, Nick Lowe, Mavis Staples and The Happy Mondays. Most notably, he was part of the award-winning Buena Vista Social Club, which sold more than eight million copies worldwide and entered the Guinness World Records as the best-selling world music album of all time. He's a multi-instrumentalist who writes songs that he describes as coming from a slightly different universe, and Viterbini is the innovative guitarist he's been working with on this tour.
