Stand-up evening by Emily DeDakis in which she and her friends skewer national myths, with a toast bar where the audience brings toppings.
Emily DeDakis brings I'm So Bored of Anti-Americanism to Accidental Theatre on Wednesday 28 October, a comedy evening that takes a long look at the way people talk about the States. DeDakis has spent more than two decades hearing unsolicited opinions about the 'Evil Empire', and she's convinced 'y'all are doing it wrong'.
The night sits somewhere between a performance essay and a conversation, and it doesn't stop at the US — it's a skewering of everyone's national myths. There's a Canadian among the performers, and the audience is invited to eat toast and tear the new world order apart. It's less of a traditional stand-up set and more of a shared dissection of how we view each other across borders.
That toast isn't just a metaphor, either. The evening is paired with a Toast Bar inspired by the Stateside experience of half-cut midnight at a Waffle House: the venue provides the bread, butter and toasters, and the audience brings their favourite sweet or savoury toppings to share. It's a potluck for the breakfast table, and you're encouraged to contribute your own toppings to the mix.
