Christmas show by the comedy duo Grimes & McKee, who frame its creation as a story written in the middle of a summer heatwave.
Grimes & McKee are bringing their Christmas show, How Grimes & McKee Stole Christmas, to the Lyric Theatre on Thursday 10 December, with the curtain going up at 8 pm.
The comedy duo frames the show's origin as a story in itself. They describe writing it in the middle of a summer heatwave, ordering mojitos by the pool and deciding there was plenty of time to put together a proper play — complete with songs, a host of characters and even a plot — even if they had to steal that plot from somebody else. The alternative, they say, was to prevaricate for months and start rehearsals in November with nothing written.
That's the sort of thing that makes the show what it is: a Christmas play that doesn't hide the way it came together. The songs and the cast of characters they mention are part of the evening, and the whole thing is directed by Ciaran Nolan.
