Family Halloween adventure at W5 with a haunted house, mask-making, a spooky makeover of the Climbit structure and the 'Pumpkins and Potions' live science show.
W5 is doing its Halloween thing again this year, from 17 October to 1 November, and it's one of those days where the whole place shifts into something a bit different. The museum turns into a family Halloween adventure that mixes the spooky stuff with the usual hands-on science, so it works as a day out with the kids without needing a separate plan for the Halloween side of things.
The main trail starts in the Halloween House, with its creaking doors and eerie corridors, and leads you into Spooky Square, where you help Boo Ghost find missing items to save the town's Halloween Festival. The Climbit climbing structure gets a seasonal makeover too, with a glowing pumpkin arch, skeletons and spooky creatures. Over in the Hocus Pocus Cafe, they're serving Halloween-themed treats and drinks alongside mask-making, and there's the Over the Hills dress-up area for when the kids want to lean into the costumes.
Beyond the trail, there's a run of live science shows: Extreme Existence: The Dark, Off with a Bang, Fear and Spooky Slime, plus the Pumpkins and Potions show. All that sits alongside the museum's usual collection of over 250 interactive exhibits across eight zones, so you've still got the regular W5 experience to fall back on. For those who need a calmer environment, there's a dedicated Halloween Quiet Session with limited admissions and reduced sound levels. The month also includes a Halloween Family Night and an adults-only night for when you'd rather do it without the little ones.
