Adults-only Halloween night at the science museum W5 with experiments, face painting, speed quizzing, a talk on bodysnatching and a live DJ.
W5 Late - Halloween takes over W5 on Friday 30 October, an adults-only night at the science museum that runs from 7pm to 11pm. It's part of a wider Halloween season the venue is running from 17 October to 1 November, so if you're out and about in Belfast around that time, this is the late-night version.
Once the museum closes to the general public, it shifts gears. The usual science experiments take a darker turn, and the space is filled with a few things you won't find during the day: licensed bars serving devilish drinks, face-painting artists to get you sorted, and speed quizzing to test your nerve and your knowledge. There's a live DJ playing Halloween hits throughout the night, and Ghostbusters characters roaming the room, with other eerie surprises popping up as the evening goes on.
There's a proper programme running alongside the drinks and dancing. A fancy dress competition is on the go, with the first prize being two tickets to see The Script live at The O2 Belfast. QUB historian Dr Robyn Atcheson gives a talk on 19th-century Belfast medicine and the bodysnatching trade, and the NI Paranormal Research Association runs a session exploring Northern Ireland's most haunted locations. Between the two, you've got a look at the city's grim medical history and a dive into its ghost stories, both in the same building.
