Free, family-friendly guided tour of the Ulster Museum's natural science galleries for children aged 6 to 11, part of the NI Science Festival.
Extinction Explorers is a guided tour of the Ulster Museum's natural science galleries, running on Wednesday 10 February and Thursday 11 February 2027. It's part of the NI Science Festival, and it's free to join.
The tour is built around a bit of a scavenger hunt. You'll start by searching the galleries for signs of species long extinct, then shift to tracking animals that still survive in the wild. Once the gallery work is done, the session finishes with investigative work in the museum's research classroom, so the kids get to do a bit of proper hands-on thinking after they've spent the first half of the hour looking at the displays.

It's aimed at children aged 6 to 11, and under-12s need to be accompanied by an adult. The groups meet at the museum's reception, and the whole thing runs from 14:00 to 15:00 on both days. If you've got a child in that age bracket and you're around Belfast that week, it's a straightforward way to spend an hour with them in the museum.
