Deacon Blue play their debut album 'Raintown' in full, followed by a second set of career songs, on their 40th anniversary UK and Ireland tour.
Deacon Blue play The O2 Belfast on Wednesday 6 October 2027, as part of their 40th Anniversary UK and Ireland tour. The night is split into two: they play their debut album Raintown in full, and then a second set drawn from across the rest of their catalogue. The Belfast date is one of 17 on the wider tour.
Raintown came out in 1987 and went platinum, and it's the record that set the band's direction. It gave them hits like 'Dignity', 'When Will You (Make My Telephone Ring)', 'Chocolate Girl' and 'Loaded'. Fronted by singer-songwriter Ricky Ross, the band took its name from a Steely Dan song and built its sound on Bruce Springsteen filtered through a distinctly Scottish upbringing. Ross has said that recreating the album live forty years on would be a great joy.
Over more than 25 years they've sold over seven million records, landed twelve UK Top 40 singles and two Number One albums, When The World Knows Your Name and the compilation Our Town. Their more recent work includes the trilogy The Hipsters (2012), A New House (2014) and Believers (2016), all of which reached the UK top 20. The second set of the night will pull from that wider body of work, so you'll hear the early songs alongside the later material.
