Family spooktacular afternoon with a mini cabaret show of drag, circus, games and music followed by a screening of the film Coraline.
The Black Box is hosting a Coraline watch-along on Thursday 29 October, and it's more than just a screening. It's billed as a family spooktacular afternoon, and the film is only the second half of the ticket. The session opens with a mini cabaret show from 3.30 to 4 pm, bringing together drag, circus, games and music before the viewing party of Coraline kicks off. It's the kind of afternoon that works as well for a family outing as it does for anyone who just wants a bit of live performance before the main feature.
That half-hour cabaret is where the live side of things comes in. The line-up features Dickie Beau and Maiya Moo, and the set pulls from a few different traditions at once: drag, circus, games and music. It's a short, fast-paced run-up to the film, so you get a bit of everything in one go. Once the cabaret wraps at 4 pm, the room settles in for Coraline, the stop-motion story of a girl who finds a door to a parallel world that looks like her own, only slightly off.

If you're planning to come, it's worth getting there a bit early. Doors open at 3 pm, and the cabaret starts at 3.30, so you've got half an hour to get settled before the live acts take the stage. General admission is £10 plus booking fee, with a low-income ticket at £5 plus booking fee, and a family ticket for £32 plus booking fee. The whole thing runs from mid-afternoon into the evening, so it's a good one for taking the kids along without it running too late into the night.
