Screening of the short films 'Haunted' and 'Polar Lights' at Queen's Film Theatre, part of the Cinemagic short-film festival.
Cinemagic is back at Queen's Film Theatre on Sunday 18 October, with a double bill titled Haunted + Polar Lights (Short). It's part of the Cinemagic Film Festival, which is the short-film competition run by QFT, Northern Ireland's leading independent cinema. The theatre opened beside Queen's University Belfast in 1968, and this is now the festival's 37th edition.
Cinemagic runs across Belfast and Lisburn in association with Belfast City Airport, and it's funded by the Department for Communities through Northern Ireland Screen and by Belfast City Council. The shortlists cover a broad range — fantastical, drama, animation, experimental and documentary shorts — and they're screened throughout the year. Beyond the screenings, the festival runs workshops for young filmmakers, with the aim of inspiring and motivating young people through creative film opportunities. The 2026 edition closes with an 'Epic Adventure Special' by Mark Kermode, whose Belfast short-film series has become a Cinemagic fixture.
