Acoustic tour show by Chris Barron, frontman of Spin Doctors, with songs and stories, joined by songwriter Jeff Cohen.
Chris Barron plays the Crescent Arts Centre on Sunday 18 April, part of an acoustic tour that brings the Spin Doctors frontman to Belfast. He's not on his own for this one: joining him is Nashville songwriter, producer and publisher Jeff Cohen.
Most of us know Barron as the lead singer and songwriter of the Grammy-nominated, multi-platinum Spin Doctors. Their album Pocket Full of Kryptonite was one of the defining releases of the 1990s, and it gave us worldwide hits like 'Two Princes' — the No. 1 rock song of 1993 — and 'Little Miss Can't Be Wrong'. These acoustic shows are a different beast from the full-band sound, described as intimate, heartfelt and funny, with Barron weaving the songs together with the stories behind them.
Cohen is a Grammy nominee and six-time BMI Award winner in his own right, with songs that have appeared on more than 25 million albums worldwide. He's written for a long list of artists, including The Band Perry, Big & Rich, Josh Groban, Sugarland and Mandy Moore. Music journalist Charles Kirby once called Barron 'the best songwriter of his generation', and put him in the company of Robert Johnson and Paul Simon, with the 'epic lyric sensibility of Bob Dylan'.
