The Tony and Olivier award-winning musical Chicago, with its brassy jazz score and Bob Fosse choreography, returns to the Grand Opera House.
Chicago returns to the Grand Opera House from Monday 23 August to Saturday 28 August 2027, with matinees at 2:30pm and evening shows at 7:30pm. It's the multi-award-winning musical set in the razzle-dazzle decadence of the 1920s, and it's coming back to Belfast for a short run.
The story follows Roxie Hart, a housewife and nightclub dancer who murders her on-the-side lover and then hires Chicago's slickest criminal lawyer to turn the crime into a barrage of sensational headlines. She's pitted against her rival cellmate, Velma Kelly, and the two fight for the spotlight in a world where notoriety is more valuable than innocence. It's a cynical, sharp-edged look at fame and the way the legal system can be manipulated into a performance.
Behind the scenes, the show was created by John Kander, Fred Ebb and the legendary choreographer Bob Fosse. It's built around a brassy jazz score that includes 'Razzle Dazzle', 'Cell Block Tango' and 'All That Jazz'βsongs that have become shorthand for the whole era. The production has picked up six Tony Awards, two Olivier Awards and a Grammy, and the Daily Telegraph called it 'SUPERB'.
