Alt-folk storytelling and song by the duo Adderstone, Cath Heinemeyer and Gemma McDermott, in The Duncairn.
Adderstone bring their show Changelings to The Duncairn on Thursday 22 October, with doors opening at 7pm and the performance running from 7.30 to 9pm. The duo is made up of storyteller-musicians Cath Heinemeyer and Gemma McDermott, who describe themselves as a Yorkshire-Ulster pairing. They work across alt-folk song and storytelling, and Changelings is built around that mix.
The show follows a Cailleach — a hag whose days as a powerful goddess are long behind her and who has been usurped by humans. She spends her time kidnapping the 'different ones' she can reach, and the performance takes you into her world through song and spoken word. It's a left-field take on life, love and climate, with the Cailleach at the centre of it. Critics have called it 'a sublime interweaving of song, spoken word and myth' (Tim Ralphs, Beeston Tales), and Beth Guiver of Story Forge said she was 'totally riveted'.

The Duncairn is an arts centre, concert venue, theatre space and art gallery in North Belfast's Cultural Quarter, and it's specialised in live folk, acoustic and traditional Irish music since 2014. That puts Changelings right in its wheelhouse. The show is strictly 16+, and there's no BYOB permitted. Doors open at 7pm, and the set runs from 7.30 to 9pm.
