Guided walking tour of Belfast celebrating writers associated with the city, from C.S. Lewis and Seamus Heaney to Jonathan Swift.
The Belfast Literary Tour kicks off at Writers' Square on Saturday 17 October, with a second date on Thursday 22 October. It's a walking tour that traces the city's writers, and it's part of the Belfast International Arts Festival's 'Talks & Ideas' programme.
The tour starts at Writers' Square, where the paving stones are quoted with lines from authors like C.S. Lewis, John Hewitt and Louis MacNeice. From there, it works its way through the city to writers with more fleeting connections to Belfast, including Jonathan Swift, Anthony Trollope and Charles Dickens, before heading south to The Crescent and the Seamus Heaney Centre. There, the focus shifts to the lives and achievements of figures like Helen Lewis, Helen Waddell, Seamus Heaney and Glenn Patterson.
It's one of several walking trails that weave through neighbourhoods shaped by the city's creativity, sporting legends and industrial heritage. The others cover the early lives of George Best, C.S. Lewis and Van Morrison, as well as the shipbuilding legacy of the Titanic Trail and the Maritime Mile.
