Four-week watercolour course for beginners and improvers, exploring seasonal landscapes from November woodlands to a festive evening scene.
Patricia Campbell is running a four-week watercolour course at The Duncairn in North Belfast, starting Thursday 19 November and running through to Thursday 10 December. It's pitched at beginners and improvers, so it's for people who might have a few paints tucked away in a cupboard or who've always wanted to try the medium but haven't quite found the right way in.
Each session runs from 1:00 to 4:00pm, and the format is the same throughout: Campbell combines step-by-step guidance with plenty of time to experiment, all in a supportive, encouraging environment. The subjects shift as the weeks go by, following the season. You'll start with misty November woodlands and atmospheric landscapes, move on to winter foliage and berries, and finish with a cosy festive scene glowing with evening light. By the end of the month, you'll have a series of paintings that trace the change from late autumn into early winter.
The Duncairn has been putting arts at the heart of North Belfast since 2014 and describes itself as part of the city's Cultural Quarter. Watercolours have always been a popular art form there, with a growing following of budding artists, so this course fits right into what they do. It's a good spot to spend a few afternoons if you're looking to build some confidence with the medium without feeling like you're being thrown in at the deep end.

The course costs £60, and that includes your materials, so you don't need to worry about sorting out your own paints and paper before you turn up. Registration is required, and the sessions run every Thursday from 19 November to 10 December, 1:00-4:00pm.
