A modern stage retelling of a Bible story by David Campton, staged by Bright Umbrella in the Grand Opera House Studio, with a post-show Q&A with the author.
A Farther Shore runs from Thursday 5 November to Saturday 7 November at The Studio, the smaller companion space to the Grand Opera House in Belfast city centre. It's a modern retelling of a well-known Bible story by David Campton, set in the present day. The play follows Peter, a fisherman from a rural seaside area, as he vividly recounts his encounters with Jesus at Joppa.
Glenn McGivern takes the role of Peter, with Trevor Gill directing and animations by Fergus Wachala Kelly. The show is produced by Bright Umbrella, who're currently moving out of their home venue, The Sanctuary Theatre in East Belfast, while the building undergoes restoration and development work. For the time being, they're taking their shows exclusively to The Studio, which is the intimate 100-seat space that sits alongside the Grand Opera House's main Victorian auditorium.
The play runs for one hour with no interval and is recommended for ages 14 and over. If you're coming on the Friday night, there's a post-show Q&A with David Campton himself, so you can hear from the writer about the piece after you've seen it.
