Let's Fund Good: Kendrick Lamar Album Party

Hotel Vegas is hosting a Kendrick Lamar album party on Friday, August 28, from 6 PM to 9 PM. It's a full-volume listening party for two of his biggest records, good kid, m.A.A.d city and To Pimp a Butterfly, played back-to-back. The night is built for singing along: the albums run at full volume and the crowd is encouraged to rap every single lyric.

The party is part of "Let's Fund Good," a summer series from Interplanetary Help Desk that pairs six live concerts with six album parties to support 24 local Austin nonprofits. Every cent from ticket sales goes to the participating organizations, and when you buy a ticket, you get to choose which one yours supports. The lineup of nonprofits includes Austin Pets Alive!, Keep Austin Beautiful, the Central Texas Food Bank, and the Young Women's Alliance, among others.

If you've spent years with these two albums on your own, this is a chance to hear them in a room full of people doing the same thing. good kid, m.A.A.d city is the cinematic coming-of-age story from Compton, and To Pimp a Butterfly is the jazz-inflected, sprawling meditation that followed. Hearing them back-to-back at full volume lets you trace the shift between the two, and since the whole point is to rap along, you'll be doing it with a crowd that knows the words as well as you do.

Tickets are $10, and the event is 21+. It runs from 6 PM to 9 PM on Friday, August 28, at Hotel Vegas, 1502 East 6th Street.
