I Think, Therefore I Am The Artist

Quimera Gallery ATX opens its doors with I Think, Therefore I Am The Artist, a solo exhibition by local painter Skyris. The opening reception is Saturday, July 25, from 5 to 8 PM, and it's free and all-ages.

Skyris is a self-taught painter who moved to Austin and found a home in the city's creative community. One of the works on show was the first piece she completed after arriving here, so there's a bit of a personal timeline running through the collection. Her work is abstract and driven by color, and she starts from the idea that color communicates emotion faster and more personally than words. Rather than telling you what to feel, she invites you to notice your own reactions, with figures painted into the work interacting with the audience. It's the kind of show where you're encouraged to sit with how you're responding to the colors rather than looking for a set meaning.

This is Quimera Gallery ATX's first exhibition, and it's billed as a celebration of the local arts scene. If you're interested in taking something home, limited edition prints are available for the duration of the exhibition (about 30 days). The opening reception is Saturday, July 25, from 5 to 8 PM, and it's free and all-ages. During the reception, there will be an artist talk at 6:30 PM, and Skyris will be live painting three human models into the beginning of the show.
