Actors From The London Stage present an abridged version of William Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing, using five actors to play every role with minimal sets and costumes.
Actors From The London Stage bring an abridged version of Much Ado About Nothing to the McCullough Theatre on Thursday, November 19, and Friday, November 20, with both evening shows starting at 7:30 PM. It's one of Shakespeare's most accessible comedies, and the company is doing it their way: just five actors playing every role, minimal sets, and minimal costumes. They use the original text as a blueprint, letting the words do the heavy lifting rather than leaning on a big production.
The story is a comedy of love and deception, and it centers on Beatrice and Benedick, two of Shakespeare's most brilliantly drawn characters. They're the ones who spend most of the play trading sharp-tongued insults while everyone around them tries to trick them into admitting they're actually in love. The rest of the plot swirls around them, with mistaken identities and a fair amount of mischief along the way.
Because it's an abridged version, it doesn't run as long as the full play, and with only five actors cycling through all the parts, the focus stays on the acting and the dialogue. The production is presented by Actors From The London Stage, with H-E-B Tournament of Champions as presenting sponsor. There's also a school day performance on Wednesday, November 18, which runs 60 minutes and is recommended for grades 7-12.
