Experimental puppetry show for adult audiences, with traditional forms, film and installation pieces, at the Center for Puppetry Arts.
XPT: Xperimental Puppetry Theater returns to the Center for Puppetry Arts in Atlanta from April 28 to May 2, 2027. It's a showcase of original puppetry made for adult audiences, and the same program runs every night, so you've got five dates to choose from.
XPT has spent more than 40 years pushing the boundaries of puppetry, bringing together artists from different disciplines to create original work. In a single evening, the program ranges from traditional puppetry forms to film and installation pieces. It's recommended for ages 18 and over, and it contains adult themes, including language, violence, and sexual situations. The show runs about 60 minutes.
It's staged at the Center for Puppetry Arts (1404 Spring St. NW at 18th St.), the largest nonprofit in the U.S. dedicated solely to puppetry. The Center is home to the Jim Henson Collection and more than 4,000 puppets; it reaches its 50th anniversary in 2028 and was named among Smithsonian Magazine's 250 Places to Celebrate America. Your ticket includes museum admission, so you can see the collections before or after the show. If you're curious about what's come before, recordings of standout performances from past years are collected in XPT XEMPLIFIED.
