A poetic, wordless journey in which a woolen thread becomes the spark for a world in constant transformation, through physical theatre, clowning, puppetry, live piano and projected imagery.
RAUXA CIA brings Wool Story to the Center for Puppetry Arts from January 21 to 24, 2027. It's a wordless show, so you won't be following a script—instead, everything is told through movement and imagery. The whole thing centers on a single woolen thread that becomes the spark for a world in constant transformation, carried along by wind and imagination. As it goes, that thread shapes each scene, acting as both guide and catalyst.
To bring it to life, the company mixes physical theatre, clowning, and puppetry, all set to live piano and projected imagery. The show runs 60 minutes and is recommended for teens. Because it's wordless, the story is told through what you see and hear rather than what's said, and the live piano gives the whole thing a specific, immediate energy.
The venue is the Center for Puppetry Arts at 1404 Spring St. NW at 18th St., the largest nonprofit in the U.S. dedicated solely to puppetry. It houses the Jim Henson Collection, with more than 4,000 puppets, and was named one of Smithsonian Magazine's 250 Places to Celebrate America. Your ticket includes admission to the museum, but there's a catch: the doors open one hour before showtime, and the collections are only accessible during that window.

Tickets start at $35 for non-members and $28 for members, with member admission limits applying. With the museum access tied to that pre-show hour, you'll want to arrive early if you want to see the collections before the performance starts.
