Music Director Laureate Robert Spano leads the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra in Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet, Brahms' Fourth Piano Concerto with Dejan Lazić, and Thomas Adès' Inferno Suite.
Robert Spano leads the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra at Atlanta Symphony Hall on April 15 and 17, 2027, with pianist Dejan Lazić joining him on stage. The concert is part of the ASO's season-long Brahms Festival, so the Brahms piece takes center stage, but the program pulls from a few different eras.
The evening opens with Inferno Suite, a piece by 21st-century composer Thomas Adès. From there, the focus shifts to Brahms' Piano Concerto No. 4, and this isn't the version you'll find on most recordings: Lazić has written a new transcription of it, so you're hearing his own take on the arrangement. The night closes with Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet suite, the ballet he began sketching in the summer of 1935. It's a string of dances that trace the yearning, vigor, passion, violence, hope, and searing desperation of Shakespeare's tragedy, and it went on to become one of the greatest ballets of the 20th century.

Spano is the ASO's Music Director Laureate, and Lazić handles the piano parts for the Brahms. Between Adès, Brahms, and Prokofiev, the bill runs from the 21st century back through the Romantic era to the mid-20th, with the Prokofiev suite serving as the finale. Both performances start at 8:00 PM.
