The Atlanta Opera's production of 'Silent Night', Kevin Puts' Pulitzer Prize-winning opera about the Christmas truce of World War I.
The Atlanta Opera brings Silent Night to the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre from November 7 through November 15, 2026. It's a production that sits right at the intersection of history and music, and it's one of the bigger things on the local opera calendar this fall.
Silent Night is a Pulitzer Prize-winning opera, composed by Kevin Puts with a libretto by Mark Campbell. It's based on a true story from World War I: the spontaneous Christmas Eve truce between French, British, and German soldiers who stepped out of their trenches to share a moment of peace in the middle of the war. If that sounds familiar, it's because the story was also the basis for the film Joyeux Noël.
This isn't a brand-new production. It's a co-production with Wexford Festival Opera and Glimmerglass Opera, and it's being led by two people you'll see around the Atlanta Opera: Artistic Director Tomer Zvulun is directing, and Principal Conductor Iván López Reynoso is conducting. Zvulun actually directed the opera's debut at the Wexford Festival Opera, where it picked up the Audience Choice Award and the Best Opera Award at the Irish Times Theatre Awards.

It's a run that spans more than a week, so you've got a few different dates to choose from rather than just one night. The performances are at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre, 2800 Cobb Galleria Parkway, Atlanta, GA 30309.
