Free public performance of Mozart's 'Idomeneo' by the Georgia State University Opera Theater, directed by Mark Lubas.
Georgia State University Opera Theater is staging Mozart's Idomeneo at the Florence Kopleff Recital Hall on Saturday, October 31, and Sunday, November 1. It's a production from the School of Music in the College of the Arts, and the singing is handled by GSU students.
Idomeneo is one of Mozart's most ambitious and dramatically powerful works, and it's a big one to take on. The story moves from a storm-tossed opening through political intrigue and divine wrath, eventually landing on a final act of startling humanity. It's not just a pretty opera; it's a full arc that carries you through some heavy territory before it reaches that human place at the end. Mark Lubas is directing this production.
