Adults-only figure-drawing session led by Ashanti Hampton with a queer elder as the live model, exploring aging in a queer body.
Queer Figure Drawing: Queer Across Generations is at the Museum of Design Atlanta on Thursday, November 19, from 7 PM to 9 PM. It's part of an ongoing series led by Ashanti Hampton, a Georgia native from Stone Mountain who found their passion for design at Georgia Tech and earned a master's in Industrial Design at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn before returning to Atlanta. The sessions are open to LGBTQIA+ community members and allies, and they're built around drawing the body in motion, at rest, and in expression.
The format is the same as the other nights in the series: you'll sketch a partially nude model through a sequence of timed poses—one-minute warm-ups, longer poses, and a final twenty-minute sketch—and the evening closes with a sharing circle. For this particular session, the model is a queer elder, and the theme is Queer Across Generations. It asks what it means to grow older in a queer body within a queer community, and it frames aging as visible, beautiful, and possible.
