Adults-only Friday evening puppet show recreating the 1964 Rankin/Bass special 'Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer', with a museum visit to the Festive Features exhibit.
Rudolph's Night Out returns to the Center for Puppetry Arts on Friday, December 4, as part of the museum's adults-only evening tradition. It's a puppet recreation of the 1964 Rankin/Bass special, handcrafted right at the Center, and runs about 90 minutes. The show is built for grown-ups, so it's a nostalgic trip back to the stop-motion classic rather than a family matinee.
There's more to the night than just the performance. Doors open at 6 PM, an hour before the show starts, and that's when you can head into the museum's Festive Features exhibit to see the holiday puppets with a curator. Admission includes a visit to the museum, so you can wander through the galleries before the show begins. The Center for Puppetry Arts itself is an Atlanta nonprofit founded in 1978 that's grown into one of the world's leading homes for the art of puppetry. It houses the Jim Henson Collection and a Global Collection, and reaches around 50,000 students every year through field trips, digital workshops, and in-class programming.
