Intermediate course in hand and rod puppetry for students who have completed Hand & Rod Puppetry 101, focusing on character development through performance.
Hand & Rod Puppetry 102 kicks off at the Center For Puppetry Arts on Monday, October 19, 2026. It's a multi-session intermediate course, so this isn't a one-off workshop—it's a series of classes that run over several weeks, with the first session running from 7 PM to midnight. It's for students who've already finished Hand & Rod Puppetry 101 and are ready to move from the basics into character development.
The course builds right on the foundation from the first level. You'll spend time strengthening the core principles introduced there—lip sync, breath, focus, and weight—and then apply them to character-driven work. The whole thing centers on bringing the puppet to life through clear, expressive movement, and exploring how thought, emotion, and point of view come through in action. The shift is from how a puppet moves to what moves it, which is where the real character work happens.

Because it's an intermediate course, you'll need to have completed the 101 level first. It's designed for students who've got the basics down and want to focus on the performance side of things rather than just the mechanics. The sessions run from 7 PM to midnight at the Center For Puppetry Arts in Atlanta.
