Virtual game design studio for designers aged 10-13 to build an interactive adventure using block-based coding with Scratch.
Game Design Studio: Lost Expedition runs at the Peachtree Branch Library on Thursday, November 12, from 4 PM to 6 PM. It's part of a series of virtual design studios for young people put on by the Museum of Design, and this one is aimed at designers aged 10 to 13.
Over the two hours, participants build a game where players explore ancient ruins. They'll use Scratch, the block-based coding language, to piece together an interactive adventure: an ancient temple, a forgotten city, or a mysterious ruin filled with hidden passages, puzzles, treasures, and discoveries. The coding covers the basics that make a game actually play—movement, interactive objects, and collectible artifacts. Toward the end of the session, students share what they've made and get feedback in a supportive environment.
It's one of several studios MODA offers for young people, alongside a Digital Art Studio and a Graphic Design Studio, so if your kid is more into drawing or layout than game mechanics, there are other options in the mix. The session itself is virtual, though it's hosted at the library.
