Monthly Design Book Club meeting at the Peachtree Branch Library to discuss 'The Library Book' by Susan Orlean and how library design shapes community.
The Design Book Club returns to the Peachtree Branch of the Fulton County Library on Friday, November 6, from 12 PM to 1 PM. This month's pick is The Library Book by Susan Orlean, and the conversation will be led by MODA staff or guest experts. It's part of a monthly series hosted by the Museum of Design Atlanta and the library, which meets at the Peachtree Branch on the first Friday of every month.
Orlean's book takes the 1986 fire at the Los Angeles Public Library as its starting point to look at the history and evolution of libraries—their architecture, how they're organized, and the people and communities they serve. It's a look at how these spaces are designed to make knowledge accessible, invite discovery, and bring people together. If you've ever spent a long afternoon in a library and wondered why it feels the way it does, this is the kind of thing the group will be talking about.
The venue itself fits the theme. The Peachtree Branch is part of a mixed-use building shared by MODA, the library, and the architecture firm Perkins+Will, all on the land of the Mvskoke (Muscogee/Creek) people. You'll find the session on the second floor of the 1315 Peachtree Building, at 1315 Peachtree Street Northeast in Atlanta.
