A guided tasting of four wines led by Certified Sommelier Janeen Jason of VinoTeca, exploring how wine can taste salty, as a fundraiser for the Museum of Design Atlanta.
Museum of Design Atlanta is hosting Food x Design: Salty Wines on Thursday, October 22, from 6 PM to 8 PM. It's a guided tasting of four wines led by Certified Sommelier Janeen Jason of VinoTeca, and the whole evening is a fundraiser for MODA's future exhibitions, programming, and operations.
The tasting focuses on a specific, maybe surprising, quality: salinity. Jason will walk you through how wine can taste salty and where that comes from—ocean air, mineral-rich soil, and the winemaker's hand. The flight of four wines is designed to test how your palate picks up that saltiness and how wine can evoke soil, sea, and salt. It's the kind of thing that's easy to talk about in the abstract, but a lot more interesting to actually taste side by side.
Janeen Jason has been a wine buyer and sommelier at VinoTeca in Inman Park since she earned her Certified Sommelier certification in 2015. The tasting is organized by MODA Board Member Lauren Aitken together with VinoTeca, the neighborhood wine shop that's built itself around a study room and a communal wooden table. The event also ties into MODA's exhibition SALT: A Design Story, so the wine tasting fits right into the museum's current focus on salt.
