Free exhibitions at the Oglethorpe University Museum of Art, including 'Realism Revisited', 'Conversations with Collections' and 'The Core Self'.
Oglethorpe University Museum of Art is currently showing a few exhibitions at once, including Realism Revisited, Conversations with Collections, and The Core Self (2026). The museum is in Brookhaven, and it pulls from its own collection as well as partnerships with institutions like the Rubin Museum of Himalayan Art, Sapar Contemporary, and the Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Foundation. That range shows up in the programming, which has run from Frida y Diego and Salvador Dalí: New Additions to the OUMA Permanent Collection to The Extraordinary Life of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama.
Conversations with Collections is the one that really changes how you walk through the place. Curated by collections manager and registrar Courtney Christy, it reimagines the permanent collection: more than 30 works across different media, styles, and time periods are paired around similar themes rather than shown in isolation. There are visitor activities too, like writing on blackboards and sitting in meditation spaces, so you're doing more than just looking. The whole approach mirrors Oglethorpe's academic mission of creating dialogue through its Core program, which challenges students to think critically. The museum has partnered with the Core on initiatives like Core Self, an annual multimedia student exhibition, and one of the featured works is Shanequa Gay's hey, slim (2021, mixed media on panel).
