Guided tour of current exhibitions at Fernbank Museum of Natural History, including WildWoods, The Secret World of Elephants, Sunken Treasures and Ancient Seas.
Fernbank Museum of Natural History is running its current exhibitions on Thursday, October 15, with the tour starting at 10 AM. It's one of those days when you can knock out a few different galleries in one go, and the lineup right now includes WildWoods, The Secret World of Elephants, and Sunken Treasures, Ancient Seas.
The Secret World of Elephants is the one that's been getting the most attention—it's a critic's pick, and for good reason. It brings together the African bush elephant, the African forest elephant, and the Asian elephant, and spends its time on their brainpower, how they communicate, and the roles they play across very different habitats. You'll also find prehistoric mastodons in the mix, including a full-scale interactive woolly mammoth model. It doesn't stop at the biology, either; the display takes on the ivory trade, climate change, and sport hunting. Fernbank VP Bobbi Hohmann described elephants as "great ambassadors" that connect science, nature, and culture, and critic Kevin C. Madigan named the show a critic's pick.
