Exhibitions on view at the Michael C. Carlos Museum, including Compassion, Laconian Drinking Cup, and Anamnesis.
The Michael C. Carlos Museum has several exhibitions on view this month, and if you're looking for a reason to head up to Druid Hills, Friday, October 16, is a good day to do it. The museum opens at 10 AM, and you'll find Compassion, Laconian Drinking Cup, and Anamnesis all running at once. There's also One Broken Cup and Three Fanta Cans in the mix, so you can work your way through the different galleries in one go.
It helps to know what you're walking into. The Carlos is part of Emory University, and it holds the Southeast's largest collection of ancient art from Egypt, Greece, Rome, and Central America. The building itself was designed by architect Michael Graves, and the galleries are on the third floor. It's not just a place to look at old things, either—the museum puts on family-friendly activities, like hands-on sessions on reading ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs, and hosts lectures from scholars like Michael Cosmopoulos.

If you're planning a visit, the museum is at 571 South Kilgo Circle NE, on the third floor. Admission runs from free to $8, though that can change, so it's worth keeping in mind. With the exhibitions open from 10 AM on Friday, you've got plenty of time to take your time with the different shows.
