Free family Halloween bash from the Atlanta Department of Public Works with games, music, costumed characters, face painting, balloon artistry and candy.
DPW's Pre-Halloween Boo Bash takes over Rodney Cook Sr. Park on Thursday, October 29, from 3 PM to 6 PM. It's a free, family-friendly afternoon put on by the City of Atlanta Department of Public Works, and it's designed as a fright-free alternative to the city's neighborhood trick-or-treating, which falls on Saturday, October 31. If you've got kids and want to get some Halloween energy out of them before the actual holiday, this is a good spot to do it.
The park fills up with interactive games, music, costumed character appearances, face painting, balloon artistry, and candy. The first 200 children walk away with a DPW superhero cape, so if you're aiming for one of those, getting there early is your best bet. Costumes are encouraged but not required, so you can go all out or just show up as you are.

It's a low-pressure way to spend a Thursday afternoon with the family, and since it's a few days before the main event, it doesn't compete with your neighborhood plans. The whole thing is free and open to the public at Rodney Cook Sr. Park, 650 Joseph E. Boone Blvd. NW, Atlanta, GA 30314, from 3 PM to 6 PM.
