Fall festival with a competitive chili cook-off, the Romp 5K, an artist market and live bluegrass music in Cabbagetown.
Chomp & Stomp returns to Cabbagetown Park on Saturday, November 14, from 11 AM to 7 PM. It's a neighborhood tradition that started back in 2003 when a few local neighbors decided to host a chili cook-off; since then, it's grown into one of Atlanta's most anticipated fall festivals, built around a fiercely competitive competition that draws more than 100 entries. The whole thing is run by volunteers, and the proceeds go to the Cabbagetown Initiative Community Development Corporation and the neighborhood parks. It's all managed by a 501(c)3 non-profit dedicated to energizing public spaces, and most of those volunteers come from Cabbagetown itself, which is a National Landmark Historic District.
The chili tasting is the main event, but the weekend holds more than that. There's the Romp 5K run, an Artist Market, and live bluegrass music playing throughout. It's a full day out in the park, and since it's a community fundraiser, the atmosphere is as much about the neighborhood as it is about the food.

One thing to keep in mind: it's free to attend, but to actually eat the chili, you'll need an official spoon. You can pick one up at presale locations—Little's Food Store, Sweet Cheats, Mikkelson's Market, and Emerald City Bagels—or buy one at the festival on the day. And a quick heads-up before you head out: no pets are allowed. The cook-off runs from 11 AM to 7 PM on Saturday, November 14, at Cabbagetown Park in Cabbagetown.
