A guided tasting session pairing hand-blended salts from Beautiful Briny Sea with small-batch chocolate from Lewis Pogue Artisan Chocolate, led by founders Suzi Sheffield and Tom Simons.
Beautiful Briny Sea and Lewis Pogue Artisan Chocolate are teaming up for a tasting at the Museum of Design Atlanta on Thursday, October 15. The session pairs hand-blended salts from Beautiful Briny Sea with small-batch chocolate from Lewis Pogue, and the two makers will be there to walk you through how a pinch of salt changes the way chocolate tastes.
Suzi Sheffield founded Beautiful Briny Sea, an Atlanta-based artisan dry-goods company, in 2011 after years of running restaurants and catering events. Her salts and sugars are sold at Williams-Sonoma and used by chefs and ice-cream makers across the country. Tom Simons runs Lewis Pogue Artisan Chocolate, a Georgia-based maker committed to ethically sourced, minimally processed, small-batch confections. The two will lead the tasting together, so you'll hear from the people who actually make the stuff.
If you've got extra time, you can also check out Salt: A Design Story, the exhibition MODA is running right now. The museum is the only one in the Southeast devoted exclusively to the study and celebration of design, with exhibitions and programming covering architecture, industrial and product design, interiors, furniture, graphics, and fashion. There's a separate salt tasting and blending session with Sheffield on October 21, but that one is already listed as sold out.
