Animated series of 68 Mexican indigenous language tales about an indigenous community, on the second floor of the Fernbank Museum as part of 'Winter Wonderland'.
68 Voices opens at the Fernbank Museum of Natural History on November 21, running through January 12. It's an animated artistic series narrated in 68 Mexican indigenous languages, built around the tales of an indigenous community rich in traditions that celebrate diversity. The series lines the second floor of the museum, so it's something you walk through rather than a single room you pop into and leave.
It's not a standalone show, though. 68 Voices is part of Winter Wonderland: Celebrations & Traditions Around the World, the museum's seasonal exhibition. This year marks its 15th since it started in 2010, and it's grown into a massive collection—more than 400 displays coordinated with cultural partners from six continents. The whole thing is led by curator Dr. Bobbi Hohmann, with lead support for cultural learning from the Nissan Foundation.
If you're not familiar with the venue, the Fernbank Museum is Atlanta's science and nature experience. It was founded in 1939 to preserve Fernbank Forest, the largest urban, old-growth Piedmont forest in the United States, and the museum and its giant screen theater opened on October 5, 1992. The display is also on view at night during Fernbank After Dark and other Museum Nights, so you can catch it even if you're not a daytime museum-goer.
