Dance theatre piece by Alan Greig, a humorous exploration of identity, queer culture, ageing and the cracked glamour of fame.
Within Reach comes to The Lemon Tree on Sunday 8 November, as part of the Aberdeen Queer Arts Festival 2026. It's a 40-minute dance theatre piece written and choreographed by veteran dance artist Alan Greig, who bills it as a humorous exploration of identity, queer culture, ageing and the cracked glamour of fame.
The show works by blending eccentric spoken-word monologues with crisp choreographed vignettes. Greig slips between characters to embody a string of LGBTQ+ icons: Quentin Crisp, Joan Crawford, Bette Davis and Tennessee Williams. It's a one-man cast, so the whole thing rests on him moving from one to the next, and the dance and the spoken word sit side by side rather than one taking over from the other. Fjord Magazine described it as "majestic yet knowing... disciplined and elegant."

It's being staged at The Lemon Tree, a venue that tends to lean towards the new, the experimental and the alternative across music, theatre, dance, performance art, comedy, spoken word and creative learning. It produces and presents emerging local and international talent and acts as a festival hub for the North-east, so a dance theatre piece like this fits right in with its usual programme. The show runs for 40 minutes, starting at 5:30pm on Sunday 8 November, and tickets are £12.10.
