A Christmas ballet by Aberdeen Academy of Performing Arts students, with professional dancers from the USA, in two 45-minute acts.
Aberdeen Academy of Performing Arts are bringing The Nutcracker to The Tivoli Theatre on Saturday 7 November, with two performances on the one day: a matinee at 3pm and an evening show at 7pm. It's the academy's ballet students taking the lead, and they're joined by professional dancers Matisse Love and Harry Louis Peterson, both from the USA.
The production is split into two acts of around 45 minutes each, a format they've pitched as being well-suited to younger audiences. Act One opens with a festive Christmas Eve party hosted by Uncle Drosselmeyer, which leads into the battle between the Mouse Queen and the Nutcracker Prince, and then the journey through the snow to the Land of Sweets. Act Two stays in the Land of Sweets, where the international dances, the Waltz of the Flowers and the Sugar Plum Fairy feature alongside the pas de deux between Clara and the Nutcracker.
Because it's a double-bill of matinee and evening, it's a good one to take the kids to in the afternoon if a late night doesn't suit, or to catch yourself in the evening. The Tivoli is at 34-48 Guild Street, AB11 6NB, right in the city centre.
