Open day at the city's collections store with behind-the-scenes tours led by volunteers, on a pay-what-you-can basis.
The Aberdeen Treasure Hub is opening its doors on Saturday 24 October, from 11.00am to 4.00pm. It's the city's main museum collections store, a brand-new building that will soon house much of Aberdeen's collection of art and history. Inside, you'll find painting and sculpture, archaeology, science and industry, maritime history, costume and decorative art. It's where the city stores and cares for its artworks and artefacts when they aren't on public display, so it's a chance to see the treasures the museum doesn't have space to show in its city-centre galleries and museums.
On the day, you can meet the Treasure Hub team and take a short behind-the-scenes tour led by the Hub's volunteers, who also support the venue. The tours run throughout the day, with the last one starting at 3.15pm. It's a good way to get a sense of what goes on when the doors are usually shut, and to see the sheer variety of things the city keeps tucked away.
