UK tribute show to The Carpenters, fronted by Maggie Nestor and eight musicians recreating the duo's songbook.
The Carpenters Experience comes to The Tivoli Theatre on Saturday 23 January 2027, a tribute to the music of Richard and Karen Carpenter. It's a full-band production, with Maggie Nestor on vocals and eight musicians behind her. The show is billed as the UK's leading Carpenters tribute, and the way they've set it up tells you exactly how they're approaching it: Nestor's silky contralto takes the lead, paired with piano and harmonies, with the eight musicians carrying the arrangements across a big-stage production of the duo's songbook.
That songbook is right at the front of the set. They'll be working through the songs most people know by heart: Close To You, We've Only Just Begun, Top Of The World, Rainy Days And Mondays, Solitaire, Goodbye To Love, Please Mr Postman, For All We Know and Only Yesterday. It's a long list of the songs that defined their sound, and the production is built around recreating that particular blend of voice, piano and harmony.
If you're not familiar with the Carpenters, the appeal is in the contrast: Karen's low, smooth voice set against the lush, carefully layered arrangements Richard put together. That's what this show is aiming for, with Nestor's voice as the centre and the eight musicians filling out the sound around her. It's a big-stage approach to a songbook that's usually associated with the more intimate side of pop.
